Which cookies we use and how to control them

This policy explains the cookies and similar browser storage Food Truck Finder uses, and how you choose which ones are allowed, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). For how we handle personal information generally, see our privacy policy.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Some are deleted when you close the browser; others stay for a set time. Websites can also save information in your browser's local storage, which works much like a cookie.
Your choice
On your first visit, a banner asks whether you accept our optional cookies, which are for site statistics. They stay off until you accept them. If you click Reject, or close the banner, they don't load.
You can change your mind at any time with "Manage cookies" at the bottom of any page, or the button below. If you switch something off after accepting it, we delete its cookies on this site and reload the page without it.
You haven’t made a choice yet, so only essential storage is in use.
Essential (always on)
Needed for the site to work. They don't track you.
- Cookie choice (stored in your browser's local storage as
foodtruckfinder_cookie_consent): remembers your answer to the cookie banner until you clear your browser data. - Deals sign-up box (local storage,
foodtruckfinder_deals_popupandfoodtruckfinder_deals_seconds): remembers that we've shown you our deals sign-up box, so it only appears once, and how long you've been on the site this visit before it does. It doesn't identify you and isn't sent to us. - Supabase sign-in (
sb-...-auth-token): only set when a site admin, or a truck owner with an account, signs in. Visitors don't get this cookie. Supabase privacy policy
Site statistics (only if you accept)
These tell us which pages people visit and where pages are hard to use, so we can improve the site. They load through Google Tag Manager, and only after you accept site statistics cookies.
- Google Analytics (
_ga,_ga_...): counts page visits, shows how people found the site and roughly where they are, worked out from the IP address. Kept for up to 2 years. Google privacy policy - Microsoft Clarity (

Other sites
If you send a booking request by WhatsApp, or follow a link to a truck's website or social media, you leave Food Truck Finder. Those sites have their own cookie and privacy rules.
Cookies in your browser settings
You can also see, delete and block cookies in your browser's settings. Your browser's help pages explain how.
If you block all cookies and local storage, the site still works, but it will ask about cookies on every visit.
Changes to this policy
If we change the cookies we use, we will update this page and the date at the top.
