Spit braais at your venue, mini donuts on the promenade, dosas at the Musgrave Market and burgers in Westville: find Durban's food trucks.
Based elsewhere, but they come to Durban for weddings, parties and work functions.
Durban's food truck listings are not what most visitors expect. In the city that gave South Africa the bunny chow, the biggest group is spit braai caterers: businesses that bring a lamb on the spit, chafing dishes and a chef to your home, office or function venue. Several of them say their meat is halaal.
The second group is sweet: mini donuts on the North Beach promenade and at The Pearls of Umhlanga, frozen yoghurt and soft serve for hire. Wood-fired pizza, pizza cones, burgers, corndogs, South Indian dosas, Turkish doner kebab and a mobile barista make up the rest, along with a converted Bedford bus that serves bunny chow and bao.
Most Durban listings work private events rather than a public pitch. The ones you can walk up to trade at the Saturday markets in Musgrave and Shongweni, at The Westville Warehouse, on the North Beach promenade and at the Durban Street Food Festival in September.
Le Oma Spitbraai Specialists works from Pinetown with smokeless, gas-fired stainless steel spits, so it can cook indoors as well as outside. Lamb on the spit is the signature, with beef, chicken and ox as alternatives, served with potatoes, carrots, salads and rolls. Set menus start at 25 guests, and smaller groups can order takeaway meals or hire a spit.
GMW Spitbraai also cooks on gas, and it is one Durban spit braai business you can taste before you book: its food truck sells cocktail lamb rolls and lamb burgers at the Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market on Saturdays. Fired Up Spit Braais is owner-run from the Durban North area and roasts lamb for weddings, sports events and prize-givings. Twilight Caterers and Spit Braai's in Pinetown adds buffets and platters, and publishes a festive spit braai menu for the year-end season.

Durban Braai Company sells packages by group size, from an intimate group of 25 to 30 guests up to a block party of 55 to 60. Each is built around lamb on a charcoal spit with sausages, chicken drumsticks, potato salad, baked bean salad, Greek salad and rolls, and the team brings chafing dishes, tables, cutlery and crockery. It states that all its meat is halaal and takes bookings through a calendar on its website.
Braai Boss Catering describes itself as a halaal spit braai specialist and serves whole-animal roasts, grilled chicken and braai meat buffet style at homes, offices and functions. Kennedy Spitbraai & Caterers cooks on charcoal with a gas option and adds chicken tikka, curries, biryani and snack platters to the spit. It says its meat comes from halaal certified suppliers, and it also hires out braai machines and delivers braai meals to your door.

Lone Star Burger Bar is a burger truck parked at The Westville Warehouse in Westville. It serves burgers, crispy chicken strips and loaded fries from Wednesday to Sunday, 12pm to 9pm, and stays at the warehouse rather than doing the market rounds.
Fudart strEATERY is a truck you book rather than find. The Durban catering company Fudart turned a 1968 Bedford bus into an 8 m stainless steel kitchen with its own plumbing, electricity and gas, and it serves burgers, bunny chow, bao buns, burritos, designer dogs and noodle bowls at concerts, conferences, weddings and house parties around KwaZulu-Natal. Its sample menus include lamb, chicken and broad bean curry, Moroccan beef and tikka chicken.

The Ameri-Canteen Food Truck cooks American diner food from the Durban South Coast, led by corndogs and pulled pork. Corndogs are sold on pre-order for collection on Fridays and Saturdays: send a WhatsApp the day before. The truck also does parties and corporate events.

The Firehouse Durban tows its own wood-fired oven and makes thin-crust pizzas at night markets and events around the city, boxed for sharing. Toppings include salami and peppers, or pulled meat with mozzarella and fresh herbs. It also sells pizza for takeaway and delivery, so call the number on its page to find out where the trailer is next.
The Boho Shack runs a converted food truck from Durban North and is set up for parties: pizza cones, slushies and light meals, with slushy cocktails for adult events and custom menus for weddings, kiddies' birthdays and corporate functions. Bookings are by WhatsApp or email.

Dinky Donuts fries mini donuts on the spot from a small wheeled cart on the Marine Parade promenade at North Beach and serves them in trays. It was on the vendor list for the 2026 Durban Street Food Festival.
Doxa Donuts trades from a black trailer at The Pearls of Umhlanga and has outlets on Florida Road and at Westown Square in Shongweni. Trays come in 5, 10 or 20 with a choice of milk chocolate, caramel, white chocolate or cinnamon sugar, and extras such as crushed Oreos, Milo and mini marshmallows. The trailer takes event bookings, and so does Donutella, a family business that brings mini donuts and soft serve to school events, company parties and weddings.

FrozenYO is hard to miss in its turquoise and yellow livery. It serves frozen yoghurt made from locally produced yoghurt with live cultures, which the business describes as gluten free and low in calories, and it posts its public trading days on Facebook and Instagram. Bookings cover weddings and engagement parties, corporate functions, birthdays, school events, festivals and film or advert shoots.
Donutella serves soft serve from food trailers and gazebos across Durban and Pinetown, often with mini donuts on the side, and takes bookings by email or phone.

Desa's Dosas is the Saturday stop at The Musgrave Market: stall F7, next to the Smoke Signal, from 9am. The South Indian menu is 100% vegetarian and vegan friendly, with a butter dosa among the dosas, and the stall also pops up at other markets such as Nelumbo Connect in uMhlanga.
Café Turka is run by Murat Oncel, who ran a small restaurant in Marmaris, Turkey before moving to South Africa. The speciality is lamb doner kebab in a pita or wrap with salad, hummus and Turkish garlic sauce, with Turkish coffee and ayran, a cold salted yoghurt drink, on the side. It trades at markets and festivals and does private catering, so check its Facebook page for current market days.
The Amateur Barista sets up a barista station at weddings, parties and other private events. The menu leans cold, which suits Durban: iced lattes, crushed-ice freezos and chillers in flavours such as salted caramel, hazelnut, white mocha and Vietnamese, with almond milk and extra espresso shots as extras. Orders are by phone or WhatsApp, and it takes cash and card.

Public truck trading follows the weekend market calendar, and Saturday morning is the busiest time. For Treat Street, the food truck strip below The Pearls, see the uMhlanga page.
Runs every Saturday from 9am to 3pm in Berea Park on Stephen Dlamini Road, Musgrave. Desa's Dosas sells its vegetarian dosas at stall F7.
Every Saturday from 7am to 1pm, rain or shine, on a hill in the Shongweni Valley overlooking Kirk Falls, with most of the market undercover. GMW Spitbraai's food truck sells lamb rolls and burgers here.
A three-day food and music festival at The Pavilion in Westville, held from 4 to 6 September in 2026 with more than 75 food vendors. Dinky Donuts was on the 2026 vendor list.
A Friday evening market from 5pm to 9pm with street food vendors and live music. The December 2025 edition was at Westville Senior Primary School and the May 2026 one at the Westville Athletics Club, so watch Facebook for the next date.
A pool bar at 48a Buckingham Terrace, Westville, where Lone Star Burger Bar's truck trades from Wednesday to Sunday, 12pm to 9pm.
Dinky Donuts fries mini donuts to order from its cart on the beachfront promenade at North Beach.
For a spit braai, start with the guest count. Durban Braai Company's packages start at about 25 guests and Le Oma Spitbraai Specialists' set menus at 25, so for a smaller family lunch look at Le Oma's takeaway meals, a hired spit from GMW Spitbraai or Le Oma, or braai delivery from Kennedy Spitbraai & Caterers. Ask whether the caterer cooks on charcoal or gas. Le Oma and GMW use gas spits, which matters if your venue or complex won't allow charcoal.
Durban's summer is also its rainy season, so for an outdoor function between October and March ask the truck what cover it brings. Fudart strEATERY carries its own plumbing, electricity and gas, which helps at a venue with no power near the parking. Year-end functions fill November and December, so book that season early.
Food Truck Finder doesn't take bookings or payments and doesn't quote prices. When you've picked a truck, open its page and use Request Booking to send your date, guest numbers and venue straight to the truck by WhatsApp or email.
Spit braai caterers are the biggest group on Durban's list, among them Le Oma Spitbraai Specialists, Durban Braai Company, Braai Boss Catering and GMW Spitbraai. They cook at your venue; send your event details with Request Booking on a caterer's page.
Braai Boss Catering and Durban Braai Company state that their meat is halaal, and Kennedy Spitbraai & Caterers says its meat comes from halaal certified suppliers. In uMhlanga, Smaquè Stack lists its smash burgers as halaal. Confirm the details with the business when you book.
The Musgrave Market in Berea Park runs every Saturday from 9am, with Desa's Dosas at stall F7. The Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market runs from 7am to 1pm, and GMW Spitbraai sells lamb rolls and burgers there from its truck.
The 2026 festival ran from 4 to 6 September at The Pavilion in Westville, with Dinky Donuts among the vendors. Check the festival's website for next year's dates.
Fudart strEATERY, a converted Bedford bus, serves bunny chow alongside burgers and bao buns, but only at booked events.
