Burgers, shawarma, kotas, coffee and rolled ice cream: find the food trucks trading at Gqeberha's markets, festivals and food truck evenings.
Gqeberha's food trucks are small, owner-run trailers that move around Nelson Mandela Bay with the calendar: Sunday country markets, Friday night markets, school derby days, fun runs at Kings Beach and car shows. Only a couple keep a fixed spot. Spud Co. sells loaded potatoes from 172 Main Road in Walmer, and Grab A Chow parks in Linton Grange between the Spar and Pick n Pay on afternoons it announces on Facebook.
The food is mostly handheld. Expect burgers from several trucks, Lebanese-style shawarma, flatbreads filled with 12-hour brisket or pulled lamb, kotas and boerie rolls, baked potatoes with butter chicken or mince, rolled Thai ice cream and mobile coffee. Grab A Chow and Meraki Foods state that their food is strictly halaal.
Most trucks trade in public and take private bookings on the side. The exceptions are the spit braai caterers, Henry's Spitbraai and Werner's Spitbraais, who work to booking for weddings, birthdays and company functions.
Chubby's Food Mobile runs a trailer menu of beef, chicken, veggie, chilli and Hawaiian burgers, with chicken wraps, deep-fried chicken drummies and chips. It has served breakfast buns and burgers at the NMU Second Avenue campus, traded at the Splash Festival at Kings Beach, and taken the trailer to the National Arts Festival in Makhanda.
Grab A Chow sells burgers and rotis and states its food is strictly halaal. Besides its Linton Grange spot, it traded at the SAAF Museum family market on 1 August 2026 and at night markets around town. The Chef Guy Food Truck, branded 'It's burger time', is the food stop at Norm-Hudlin Trails in Kragga Kamma and turns up at classic car days. Outstabulous Catering and Events adds 150g beef burgers, including a surf and turf version, to its kota menu.
Bite Me Catering runs the Bite Me Food Truck, which rolls shawarmas 'with Lebanese flair'. It is a regular at the Crossways Village Market, where it parks opposite LlewZ Craft Sauces, and at SAAF Museum markets. In August 2026 it also fed a school derby day at Laerskool Lorraine and served breakfast and lunch at the Pretty in Pink run at Kings Beach.
Grillicious Food Truck fills flatbreads with pulled lamb, 12-hour beef brisket, grilled chicken or falafel, topped with slaw and tzatziki, and fries its chips in its own tallow. The falafel option gives non-meat eaters a full meal. Find it at Crossways, the UP Market in Mount Pleasant and Filthy's in Walmer, and since September 2026 on Uber Eats.

Henry's Spitbraai is family owned and says on its website that it has served spit braai in the Eastern Cape for more than 40 years. Its menus cover a lamb and chicken spit, a pork spit, a three-meat spit, a traditional braai, potjiekos and a three-course roast, for a minimum of 30 guests. It also rents out spits for indoor or outdoor events, and recently catered a Transnet function at Mangolds Pool Resort.
Werner's Spitbraais cooks lamb and pork on the spit with potatoes, rice, vegetables and pot bread, and lets you add starters such as hake or a tuna ring and desserts like malva pudding with custard. It also runs Manas Venue at Plot 152 Montmedy Road in Theescombe, where it cooked a Father's Day lunch on 21 June 2026.

Outstabulous Catering and Events lists a Fully Loaded Kota, a Kota Supreme and a cheese and polony kota, plus boerewors rolls, tjips and sauce, and a breakfast box. It sells from Cotswold and was at Happy Valley on 19 September 2026 and the Heritage Day festival at Fairview Sports Centre five days later.
Spud Co. bakes potatoes and loads them with mince, butter chicken, mac and cheese or boerie. It runs weekly specials on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, takes WhatsApp orders and also serves at local events. Meraki Foods sells South African street food at Happy Valley and campus events such as those at NMU's South Campus, and states that everything it serves is strictly halaal.
Let’s Roll makes Thai-style rolled ice cream to order from a stall that follows the evening events. It works the RHBC Kragga Kamma Food Truck Friday from 5pm to 9pm, the Friday night market in Fairview run by What's Good In The Hood, church family markets such as Sacred Heart, and the Splash Festival at Kings Beach, which ran from 3 to 5 April 2026. It isn't marked for hire, so if you want it at a kids' party or school fun day, ask through its page.
Miss Barista is a coffee truck that works markets, fairs, weddings, parties and company events. In September 2026 it was part of Kidchella, a kids' festival at Norm-Hudlin Trails, and the Roots, Rides & Rhythm Heritage Festival at Fairview Sports Centre. The same month it launched a to-go menu, with delivery in about 20 to 25 minutes or pick-up, for days when there's no market on.
Several Gqeberha trucks cater for companies on weekdays. Outstabulous Catering and Events delivers staff lunches and training-day meals for 10 to 150 people, and its 'Monday burger drop' recently fed the Sea Safety Training Group. Grillicious Food Truck markets itself for corporate functions, brand activations and school or sports events, and Spud Co. was one of the food truck vendors at Volkswagen's 75th birthday celebration in September 2026. Miss Barista also takes company bookings for coffee.
Gqeberha has no permanent food truck park, so the trucks follow a handful of recurring markets and evenings. These all ran in 2026; check the organiser's page or the truck's Facebook before you drive out, because wind and rain cancel outdoor markets here.
A country market under blue gum trees at Crossways Farm Village, off the N2 at exit 707 past the Van Stadens Bridge, about 30km west of the city. It runs from 9am on the first and last Sunday of most months, with extra public-holiday dates; Bite Me Catering and Grillicious Food Truck trade there.
The Baakens Food Truck Funday crew, running since 2016, hosts a food truck evening at 2 Alabaster Street in the Baakens Valley from 5pm to 9pm. In 2026 it has fallen on the last Tuesday of the month, including 25 August and 29 September.
An evening of food trucks and live music at RHBC Kragga Kamma, 5pm to 9pm; bring camp chairs. One ran on 17 July 2026 and the next is set for 16 October; Let’s Roll has traded there.

A family market day at the South African Air Force Museum in Forest Hill with more than 50 stalls. The most recent ran on Saturday 1 August 2026 from 11am to 6pm, with Bite Me Catering and Grab A Chow among the food sellers.
For a wedding or big birthday, the spit braai caterers are built for numbers. Henry's Spitbraai sets a 30-guest minimum and can customise menus; Werner's Spitbraais adjusts its four menus and can host at Manas Venue in Theescombe. Many function venues sit on the city's western edge in Kragga Kamma, Theescombe and towards the Van Stadens River, so give the exact venue when you ask for a quote.
Book early for the Easter weekend, when the Splash Festival fills Kings Beach with more than 50 food trucks, and for Heritage Day on 24 September, when trucks such as Outstabulous Catering and Events and Miss Barista worked festivals in 2026. Ask about wind too: Gqeberha afternoons can blow hard, so agree where the truck parks and whether it needs shelter.
To book any truck, open its page and tap Request Booking. Your date, venue and guest numbers go straight to the truck by WhatsApp or email, and the truck quotes you directly; Food Truck Finder doesn't take bookings or payments.
On Sundays, try the Crossways Village Market (first and last Sunday of most months), the UP Market in Mount Pleasant (mid-month) or the monthly market at Norm-Hudlin Trails. On Friday evenings, the What's Good In The Hood night market runs at Fairview Sports Centre. Each truck's Facebook page shows where it is parked next.
Grab A Chow and Meraki Foods both state that their food is strictly halaal. If you need detail on suppliers or certification, ask the truck directly before you order or book.
